A Picnic in the Park

Nothing says summer like gathering a group of your favourite people, heading to the local park and setting up for a casual afternoon of picnicking. As always, Sebastien Centner, Canada's leading expert on entertaining, found ways to take the traditional and make it anything but.

A picnic is the perfect venue to offer your guests the finest in homemade sandwiches that could not be more simple to make. Our suggestions for your next outdoor party...

If sandwiches are not your thing why not turn your party in the park into a gourmet, yet still casual, barbeque. MEATing has recently begun to offer a simple to create 'BBQ in a Box'. All the elements are carefully packaged with full directions (www.meating.com). No need to find the closest fire pit, the Weber Q220 Grill is perfecty portable with a stand on wheels. You can find full details at www.weber.com.

Sebastien also sought out the latest gadgets currently on the market that are sure to enhance any picnic.  You can share your favourite IPod playlists by bringing along Apple's portable speakers, the version we used was created by Roxy and features a trendy polka-dot carrying case.  If you plan on continuing your picnic into the evening set-up solar lights early in the day. As the sun begins to set the lights will automatically turn on creating a flameless candle lit atmosphere.

For dishware, avoid using your standard paper plates.  There are plenty of options for elegant acrylic that can be easily wiped after you eat and won't break on your car ride home.

Thank you to Weber for providing the fabulous Q220 Grill.
